Description
Vincent van Gogh’s Cypresses captures the towering, flame-like trees that fascinated him during his time at the Saint-Paul asylum in Saint-Rémy. He described them as “beautiful as regards lines and proportions, like an Egyptian obelisk”. The painting’s swirling brushstrokes and rich, contrasting colors create a dynamic interplay between the dark cypresses and the sunlit landscape, embodying Van Gogh’s expressive style and emotional intensity. It was exhibited at the 1890 Salon des Indépendants.
