Description
The Turkish Patrol by Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps is a striking Orientalist painting that depicts a group of Turkish military patrols making their rounds in Smyrna (modern-day Izmir). Their traditional attire, including turbans and flowing robes, combined with the dynamic composition, adds to the sense of urgency and movement. Decamps belonged to the first generation of French painters to popularize scenes of everyday life set in the Middle East.
